2021 Dynasty Rookie Rankings

Updated on 6/9/21 – Will continue to tinker rankings throughout summer.

Feel free to hit me up @theFellowKGB with questions!

I don’t see much value in rounds 3-4 this year at all. If you have extra 3rds and 4ths this year, I’d recommend consolidating picks and try to move up into the 2nd or higher.

If you prefer to see rankings by position, you can view them here.

For Quarterbacks, if you want one early, choose from Lawrence, Lance, or Fields. If you want to gamble and wait a bit, you can see where Jones and Wilson fall to. Wilson should have decent value his rookie season but his future outlook is probably the murkiest. Drafting Mac Jones will require some patience but could look really nice come next season.

For Running Backs, the easy slam dunk pick is taking Najee Harris in the Top 5, depending on your format. My next favorite is Javonte Williams and I’m willing to reach a little bit on him in the mid to late first. Melvin Gordon is ahead of him for this year but things could really open up nicely for him in years 2-4 with Denver. Travis Etienne will likely not land on many of my teams with my ranking, but it’s hard to ignore his skill set and draft capital here. He’s a mid to late first round option but starts to look attractive for me if he falls to the back of the 1st. Being paired with James Robinson makes me nervous about his ceiling in 2021, but I can see the value in PPR formats as a low end RB2 as early as this year. After these top 3 options, only Trey Sermon for SF and Michael Carter for NYJ are on my list to draft this year. Sermon will need patience, sitting behind Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson. Carter has very little competition for touches right of the gate and could be a Round 2 steal, I just hesitate with him because of his pass protection woes. You could snag an RB later if you’d like, but nothing really sticks out outside of these top 5 guys in 2021. Take your rookie handcuffs if you have the veteran already.

For Wide Receivers, Ja’Marr Chase will step right into the WR1 role for Joe Burrow and is an easy Top 5 selection. I think Jaylen Waddle has secured his spot as the 2nd best rookie WR to take this year and he might be just as good as Chase for fantasy right away. Both WRs landed with their college QBs and can hit the ground running in 2021. After these 2 is where the discussion begins. I’m fine with selecting any of following in the back end of the first round/early second: DeVonta Smith, Elijah Moore or Rondale Moore. All three of these guys could potential lead their teams in receptions in the coming years and are fun to watch. They should provide high floor PPR upside and can be their QBs favorite target. The next group of WRs have plenty of upside but also carry some risk in the 2nd round. These WRs are: Rashad Bateman, Terrace Marshall Jr., Kadarius Toney, Amari Rodgers, Amon-Ra St. Brown, D’Wayne Eskridge and Josh Palmer. I think Bateman and Marshall could both be future WR1s on their team, with Marshall exciting me the most. Toney and Rodgers can be excellent slot weapons and wouldn’t surprise me if they out-performed the tier of WRs mentioned above in Smith and the Moores. If Aaron Rodgers sticks around in GB, I’ll be very excited about Amari. Then you have late 2nd/early 3rd round gambles in St. Brown, Eskridge and Palmer. For 3rd and 4th round darts, I like guys like Dyami Brown, Tylan Wallace, Frank Darby, Jalen Camp and Cornell Powell.

For Tight Ends, it’s really simple. Take Kyle Pitts if you can, whenever you’d like. If you don’t get Pitts, I’m cool with punting on this class until the 4th round. Pat Freiermuth is an excellent consolation but the murkiness of Pittsburgh’s future QB makes me hesitate. You can snag Pat in the middle to late second round, or wait until the 3rd/4th to collect guys like Kyle Granson, Tommy Tremble, Hunter Long, Brevin Jordan, Tre’McKitty or Zach Davidson.

Final thoughts:

Rounds 1 and 2 are where you want to be at. I’d love to get one of my top 3 QBs, but if I can get Wilson or Mac Jones, that’s cool too. Load up on RB/WR in these first two rounds and don’t be afraid to move up from the 3rd/4th rounds. Try to land one of the Top 5 RBs, preferably Javonte Williams. Don’t sleep on Jaylen Waddle potentially being the best WR in this class. There are plenty of small slot WR’s available so try to snag one of them (Elijah Moore, Rondale Moore, Toney, Rodgers, Eskridge). Watch some Josh Palmer highlights on YouTube and then envision him playing with Justin Herbert. Draft Pitts at TE or none at all until super late (Granson).
